| Parliamentary Education Services, with the support of the Speaker's Office and key Parliamentary Service staff, hosts Youth Parliaments.
Youth parliaments for senior secondary students are conducted jointly by the Queensland Parliament and the Queensland Law Society as part of Law Week, and also at other times of the year. Legal studies students debate Youth Bills designed to address youth issues.
YMCA Youth Parliaments, a joint project developed and managed by the YMCA and the Queensland Parliament, enable young people from a variety of backgrounds to experience the parliamentary process of formulating and enacting legislation on youth issues. The legislative outcomes of the Youth Parliament are forwarded to the relevant Government Ministers for their consideration.
Youth Parliaments have now become established activities of the education program of the Queensland Parliament. This parliamentary education activity will allow selected youth to gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative process together with the opportunity to publicly debate issues considered important to young people. Moreover, Youth Parliaments can act as structured youth forums for the exchange of ideas and the free expression of opinions of youth in our society today.
