What is the Record of Proceedings?

The Record of Proceedings integrates the Votes and Proceedings and Hansard into one document.  The Votes and Proceedings recorded the procedural events of the House; Hansard recorded the debates of the House.  The Record of Proceedings is the official record of the debates and procedures of the House; that is, it is a record of what is said in the House and a record of the procedural events of the House.  The formal production of the Record of Proceedings commenced on 12 February 2008.

The Record of Proceedings is still commonly referred to as 'Hansard'.

How do I find the Hansards?

At the Hansard web page click on “latest Record of Proceedings”.  On this page you will find a .pdf of the last three to four sitting days.

If you require Hansards from previous years click on ‘Browse by Sitting Dates’ for the current and previous Parliaments.

When are the Hansard transcripts published for each sitting day?

Tuesdays and Thursdays of a sitting week
An electronic version of the proof Record of Proceedings is published to the end of question time and available on the website after 2 pm.

A further version to the lunch break is published on the website after 4 pm.

A full proof transcript of the day’s proceedings is available within three hours of the adjournment of the Parliament.

Wednesdays of a sitting week
An electronic version of the proof Record of Proceedings is published to the end of question time and available on the website after 6 pm.

A full proof transcript of the day’s proceedings is available within three hours of the adjournment of the Parliament.

 

How do I search Hansard?

At the Hansard web page click on ‘search Hansard’. Click in the year/s required for the search or  ‘all years’ if unsure. Enter in the code words of your search. Click OK.

If your search is successful a list of files will be displayed.

If your search was unsuccessful, it is suggested that just one key word be entered into the search field or you search ‘all years’.

How do I get a copy of second reading debates prior to 1990?
 The Record of Proceedings is available electronically from 1990. If you wish to obtain second reading debates prior to 1990 you will need to go to your local library or the State Library.
How can I get copies of Record of Proceedings?

All Weekly Hansards are available electronically from 1990 on the historical section of the parliamentary web site by clicking on ‘Historical Information’ then ‘Hansard’.

 

 

How do I get a copy of estimates transcripts?

Estimate hearing transcripts for the current year are available on the Hansard web page under ‘latest Hansard’.

Transcripts prior to the current year can be obtained from the Former Estimates Hearings page.
