Commencing in 2002, a sitting of Parliament has been held in a regional Queensland area once every term (three years).
The Queensland Parliament's fourth regional sitting was held in Mackay from 24-26 May 2011 at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The third regional sitting, the Far North Queensland sitting of Parliament was held in Cairns from 28 to 30 October 2008.
The second regional sitting, the Central Queensland Sitting of Parliament, was held in Rockhampton from 4 to 6 October 2005.
The first regional sitting was the North Queensland sitting of Parliament which was held in Townsville from 3 to 5 September 2002.
