The seminars for public sector officers explain the role played by the Queensland Parliament, the functions it performs and its relationship with the Executive.
Unlike all other Australian states, Queensland has no Upper House. These training seminars explain our system of parliamentary democracy and the mechanisms adopted for the Parliament's effective scrutiny of the decisions and operations of Executive Government.
The seminars explore the responsibilities of public sector officers in relation to the processes and practices of Parliament, the legislative, scrutiny and financial functions of the Parliament, the roles of Members of Parliament and their working relationship with the public sector; and the doctrine of the separation of powers. During the seminars, officers have the opportunity to observe Parliament at work and to participate in a session with a Member of Parliament.
Two types of seminars are available: a half-day seminar and a full-day seminar. Public sector officers should select only one seminar to attend based on their level of responsibility and position held (refer to seminar flyers for additional information).
All seminars are held at Parliament House and a tour of the Parliament and its historical environs is included.
