Public Sector Seminars

Public Seminars

The Queensland Parliament provides fee-paying seminars to assist public servants in their interactions with the Parliament and its committee system.

Parliamentary Practices and Procedures Seminars

Introduction to How Parliament Works

Relationship Between the Parliament and the Executive

These seminars explore the responsibilities of public sector officers in relation to the processes and practices of Parliament, the legislative, scrutiny and financial functions of the Parliament, the roles of Members of Parliament and their working relationship with the public sector; and the doctrine of the separation of powers. During the seminars, officers have the opportunity to observe Parliament at work and to participate in a session with a Member of Parliament. A tour of the Parliament and its historical environs is included.

Two types of seminars are available: a half-day seminar or a full-day seminar. Public sector officers should select only one seminar to attend based on their level of responsibility and position held (refer to seminar flyers for additional information).

Seminars about Parliamentary Committees

Committees@Work
This seminar is designed to assist public sector officers in their interactions with Queensland’s parliamentary committees. Senior parliamentary officers, including senior committee officers, explain the structure and processes of the Queensland Parliamentary Committee system and the roles and responsibilities of public service officers in relation to providing information to parliamentary committees.

Departmental level seminars

Seminars can also be offered as a form of professional development for groups of public servants from within a department, a statutory authority or a Government owned corporation. The content of these programs will be negotiated with the client and designed to meet selected objectives.
