Community Information Sessions

In 2011, the Queensland Parliament implemented major reforms to its parliamentary committee system. A system of portfolio-based committees and a revised legislative process were implemented. This new system provides increased opportunities for input into the State’s decision-making processes, particularly with regard to suggesting amendments to Bills.

The Queensland Parliaments conducts free evening information sessions to individuals, members of community groups and representatives of stakeholder groups to assist them to better understand how this new system operates and how to engage effectively with parliamentary committees.

Understanding Parliament and its Committees

Understanding Parliament and its Committees is aimed at members of community groups wishing to increase their awareness and understanding of the role of the Queensland Parliament, its parliamentary committees and opportunities for their participation in the democratic and legislative process.

Parliamentary Committees and YouParliamentary Committees and You is aimed at representatives of stakeholder groups, both community and industry, who would benefit from a more detailed knowledge of the operation of the parliamentary committee system and about how they can most effectively participate in the parliamentary committee inquiry process. This seminar would be of benefit to anyone who wishes to know more about preparing submissions for committee inquiries and appearing at public hearings.

Details of any upcoming sessions will be announced on this page.
