The 2008 Australasian Study of Parliament Group Annual Conference will be hosted by the Queensland Chapter in 2008.
The conference the topic Parliament and the People: Engagement, Representation and Participation will be held from Thursday 10 July until Saturday 12 July 2008. The conference will be held at Queensland’s Parliament House.
The conference will bring together past and present members of parliament from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, and potentially other parliaments, a range of academics with an interest in parliament, members of the media, and other interested persons. The conference format includes presentations from invited speakers and delivery of formal papers from academics and practitioners, structured panel discussion, formal debate, and informal discussion. Highlights include: welcome reception hosted by the Governor of Queensland Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AM, keynote speech by social researcher Hugh Mackay; dinner speakers ABC’s Richard Fidler and Jack the Insider; and a parliamentarians vs media debate with Quentin Dempster, Tony Koch and George Megalogenis on the media team. A guided viewing of Picasso and his collection and luncheon have been arranged for attendees as a post-conference event.
