TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House, the need to expedite the development of Stage 2 of the TAFE Coomera Marine Centre of Excellence. This pivotal expansion would be a commitment to the marine industry, by providing marine cabinetmaking, marine electrical, marine welding, and marine paint and powder coating specialists as well as skills used in broader manufacturing industries, in the fastest growing region in Queensland.

If Stage 2 is fast tracked, the TAFE Marine Centre of Excellence is poised to expand its reputation as a hub for current marine industry skills training, to a hub for nurturing a wider range of essential skills in electrical, welding, and other marine-related apprenticeships, that can be utilised in a broader range of manufacturing industries already established in the Yatala Enterprise Area and surrounds. By fast-tracking this project, we can address the pressing need for skills and bolster our economy through enhanced job creation.

The completion of Stage 2 is crucial for accommodating a growing number of apprentices needed in the Coomera Marine Precinct, that is a cornerstone of innovation and progress in Queensland’s marine industry. It is an investment in our youth, equipping them with the expertise and experience to navigate the ever-evolving marine and broader manufacturing landscape.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure that the government provide additional capacity to develop sustainable manufacturing expertise and ensure that the TAFE Marine Centre of Excellence stands as a hub of opportunity and excellence.
