Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that Queensland's recreational pistol shooting community request that the participation conditions for maintaining a licence be revised to provide a fairer and more equitable means of counting pistol range participation days, including both practice and competition shoots. Due to the current 'cost of living' crisis, many people are now working two or more jobs and travelling long distances to and from their FIFO and DIDO roles, this makes it increasingly difficult to maintain the level of club practice and competition shoot participation needed to retain their licences and continue enjoying recreational pistol shooting.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that the participation conditions for Category H weapons licencing, pursuant to Section 18B(C) of the Weapons Act 1990, be revised to:

a) allow four practice shoots to be counted each year for Class A, B and C licences; and

b) during competition Range Days, one of each Class A, B, C may be logged and counted, where the licensee has participated in multiple class disciplines during competitions held across the full day. Such changes would provide a more equitable outcome for licensees disadvantaged by heavy work commitments and help preserve recreational pistol shooting as an enjoyable and relaxing sport here in Queensland.
